(By Telegraph,—Press Association.)
OHHISTCnURCH, MONDAY
Fully three thousand people attended tho Direct Vi to meeting at the Catheral Square on Saturday last. Some organised opposition was made and tho speakers were pelted with eggs.
The following resolutions were, however, carried, not more than forty persons dissenting. "That this meeting ol Christcburbh electors emphatically protests against the unseemly haste exhibited by the Government, in rushing their Licensing Bill the House, and that the meeting is strongly of opiaion that the principals embodied in tlio Bill are anti-demo-critic and calculate to render alleflorts for Temperance Reform futile for mauy years. The meeting urges the Government to abandon the Bill, and refer the question to the peopl" for their decision at the approoching elections."
