[BV UMPIRE.] Owing to the miserable state of the weather on Saturday last the' cricket match between Groytown and Masterton was not played, although ft full team of the latter arrived on the ground. An incessant downpour of rain prevailed almost the w&j afternoon, and what would have been i be best match seen in Masterton during the season was spoiled. Despite the rain, a number of Masterton cricketers turned up, and decided to play a scratch game with the visitors. Eight men a Bide were chosen, and a game was indulged in for an hour or so to the amusement of a few spec* tators. Ciicket was out of the question as the ground was so slippery that nothing was sure. Masterton was sent in first, and lost their seven wickets for 41 runs, to the bowling ofUdy, Elder and Judd, the latter proving the jLti disastrous. Broad topped the saflfcuth 22, and did not seem sorry when he was made to retire. Greytown then proceeded to the wickets, and when the score stood at 46 it was unanimously decided to postpone proceedings. The win was made for the loss of three wiokets, Elder (10) and Rowse (15) being the not out men. Appended are the scores : Masterton. On Saturday next a match between Uarterton and Greytom will probably be played, on the latter's ground, On Thursday next, the W.F.C.A. and Greytown second eloveua meet for the return match,
The representative matoh between the Wairurapa and Bubli Districts, will be played on the Greytown Reservo on Easter Saturday and Monday. A very close and interesting game may be expected, as ™th districts havo excollent men. This will be the last and probably the best match of the season, after which football will commence with a yengeasce.
Tho Excelsiorn and Orientals are arranging a match between their combined team and the second eleven of the Wellington Stars, to bo played in the City on St, Patrick's Day. Mamma v, Greytown 2nd, A match was played as above on tho Greytown Becroation Eoseive last Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the visitors by 64 on the first innings. Mataraiva won tho toss, and took the crease. It. Eenall and A, Welch batted first.
Tho former played a good'stonewalling game, oarrying his bat until the last man wont in, when he was caught by 6, Jackson, having secured 85 runs. Double figures wore reached byKenall, 85, and W. Gallon, 30. The visitors had aocured 100 when their last wicket fell, C, J. Beard, Fd. and Fit. Hawko and J. Jackson took bowling honors for Greytown. Tbe homo team made a poor stand against the bowling of W. Gallon and Ticehurst, only securing 86 runs for tho innings, They went in for o> second innings and made 82, but the match was counted on the first innings. Tho following were the scores: Matarawa.
