A POPULAR OFFICER.
Presentation Made to Inspector Thomson, &[By Telegraph-Press Association,] Wellington, Tuesday. Inspector Thomson was presented to-day with a purse of two hundred sovereigns, In the absence of the Mayor, Mr Dathie, ex-Mayor, made the presentation, referring briefly to the estimation in which Inspector Thonißon was bold; Tho latter thanked the citizens heartily, tho more so as ho had only been fiye and a half years in Wellington, The amount was collected in a few days, and plenty of people were not canvassed or the sum would Iwebeeu largely iuptewed-
