R.M. COURT.
MASTERTON-TUESDAY, (Before Messrs Burton Boys and P. Von Redon, J.P.'e). UROENY. Harry Tomkinson was charged by tho police with stealing two steel surveyors' tapes, and a tent fly from the premises of Thomas P. Lett, the same being the property of A. J. Rawaon, surveyor, of Masterton, and the value being U 10s. The accused pleaded guilty. The Bench commented strongly on the conduct of tho accused, and said there was no excuse for him, The accused said he had been drinking heavily of late. The Benoh intimated that this could not be considered in dealing with the case, The sentenco of the Court would be two months' hard labour. . James SfflajSijto whom the goods had beenjfel' ffas ty the ' Benoh how he came to purchase'such articles from the accused. He explained that he had known the man for four years, and always thought him to He had made enquiries and Tomkinson had made what he thought a satisfactory explanation, Sergeant McArdle pointed out the acouscd was a first offender. Tho Bench decided not to admit tho accused to probation.
