EKETAHUNA ROAD BOARD.
An adjourned meeting of the Eketahuna Road Board was held in tho offico on Saturday evening. There were present, Messrs Parsons (Chairman), Matheson, Anderson, M, Neilson, Bayliss, Mowbray and Dowsett. This meeting was held to hear tho Engineer's report of the bridge being erected at Harwell, Mr King, the Engineer, reported the bridgwas being unsafe, and stated that tWwork had not been done up to the specifications. He said he had been to inspect the work ton or twelve times, but that on four occasions work bad not been started. On four other occasions ho had seen the work in progress. Tho contractor said it was impossible to erect the bridge according to tho specifications. Ho complained that the plans were wrong. The Chairman wanted to know what was to be done to the bridge to enßuro its safety, and asked the contractor if he would finish tho bridge according to what tho Engineer specified.
The Board resolved that tho contractor be requested to drivo supplementary piles alongside all piles at present in position bolting the same to present piles, or to drive present piles, tho driving in every case to be .according to specifications, the two outside main piles to be allowed to stand as they are, and require tho contractor to give a definite answer on Friday, 13th January, 1893. Mr Dunn asked the Board to do something to tho lower end of the Tawatai road, The Board informed Mr Dunn that they were sorry they could do nothing for him as thero were no funds available. It was proposed and seconded that nil tenders are to bo accompanied by cash or a certified cheque The Board then went into committee and it was decided to give the a month's notice.
