The Fire at the Coalpit Heath Mine.
(By Telegraph,—Press Association.) Greyhoutii, November 3. Tho fire engine returned from Brunnerton this evening. The men kept tho engine going from eight last night to noon. Having abundance of hose, three branches wero taken through tho Brunner mine into the Coalpitbeath, and tho fire was fought foot by foot through tho mine galleries, the men having to lie down to esoapo suffocation. The fire appeared in the tunnels as fierce as in a coke oven. At one time it was thought impossible to contend successfuly with the fire, but the men stuck to their work stpadily, and the water supply being largo and steady, fiually gained the day and got the tire under, It is generally admitted that the steam fire ongino saved the mine. The engine received no damage through being lowered down tho rocks to the river.
