SOCIAL AT GREYTOWN.

: . Presentation to the Rei W. Rowse, (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very pleasant social was held in the Greytown Foresters' Hall last evening A number of persons of all denominations assembled to bid a temporary farewell to the Rev, W. and Mrjs Eowsc, who intend taking a holiday trip for a few months. For some lime past Mr Rowse'sliealthhus been failing and his medical advisers and fiicnds havo urged upon him the necessity of taking a complete rest. The Eev. gentleman and bis wife have worked very hard together in Now Zealand for a period ot thirtyfive years, spending fifteen years entirely among iho Natives. This Serial was organised by a few ladies, and great credit is due to them for the manner in which the whole affair was carried out. Mr F. H, Wood pre sided, and oppned the proceedings with a few well chosen remarks, A letter of apology was read from tho Eev, 0. Murray, in which he referred to the good work done by Mr Eowse and hoped that he would como back fully restored to health, DuriDg the course of the evening tho Eev. T. B. Maclean and the Rev. Mr Elliotte (who takes Mr Eowse's place) spoko a few words, and the following miscellaneous programme was gone through in a very praiseworthy man-ner:--Pianoforte solo, "Lurline," MissF.V.Wood; song,"TheLost Chord," Mr E. McGregor; song, "A Vision," Mr T. J, Eowse; song, "Tho Song that reached my Heart," Mrs E. Y. Shearer; song, ■' Trusty as Steel," Mr A. Udy; double Quartette, Mesdames Shearer and Hawko, Misses Rowse, Baillie and Messrs Black, Shearer, T. J.Eowso and H. Hawko; son?, " True till Death," Mr R, C. Black; duet, Messrs H, Udy, junr,, and A. Udy; pianoforte solo, Miss M. Thompson; song, "Good Company," Mr R, Gant; duet, Messrs Rowse and Black; selection, choir. An excellent and bountiful supper was handed round by the young ladies, after which a presentation of a purse of sovereigns was made and an address given by the residents of Greytown to Mr Rowse, for which he, in a few appropriate remarks, expressed his sincere thanks. Altogether the whole evening was a very enjoy able one,
