LOWER TAUERU NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Wo are led to believe that Mr W, C. Buchanan, M.H.E., will visit the Taucru on lhe 28th inst,, when I am sure he will he well received, as he is quite a stranger to us now, Of course we are all looking forward to a treat, as after visiting the Old Country and tbo other Colonies, he should have a lot of now views, proposals, etc. The Education Board lins behaved handsomely to the Taueru, and undor tbo personal supervision of the head teacher, tanks have been erected and necessary repairs about the premises attended to by Mr 0. E, Daniell. Why cannot the .Board forward funds to the Committee to do these little jobs, as they can afford to pay just about double for what they get done ?' Thoy also appear to ignoro the Committee tu such an extont, that the contractor is actually sent to the teacher instead of the Chairman of the Committee, and the teacher lays the foundation stone, and the work proceeds, while the Committee-sup-posed to be responsible to the Board for buildings and school furnitureis left in total ignorance of what is being done. Who tnkea over the work when completed, would be a difficult question to answer, as the Committee does not actually know who authorised the work to be done. The local Committee wish the Board to send some one else- to take over the work, as they will have nothing to do with it, becauso thoy have not been asked to see to the work in any form whatever. All the Committee do is meet once a month to receive a bill they have no funds to pay. All the rest of the business is done by the Board and the teacher.
