THE TRUE PROTECTION.
Nowadays tho fiscal policy is always a prominent plank in the platform of everj politician, yet is it a wise policy on the part of the consumers to place a tax on the articles which they do not mako but only consume ? Suppose, for instance, tho customs duty is 33 per cent on imported goods, the wages of the labourer in all grades of employment in a country thus protected, should bo 33 per cent higher than in a frcetrade country, to lunko things equal—but, is it over the case! True protection, like charity, begins at home, and in these days when the air is laden with microbes, bacteria, and other germs of disease, it behoves us all to be on guard against the common enemy, Old ago kills but few, diseaso slays its thousands and millions, and all becauso mankind is so apathetic and careless about first signs of approaching sickness. Neuralgia ia one of tho most positivo sigus of tho approach of some physical affliction, and requires immediate attention beforo it has progressed beyond human aid and fatal diseaso has got hold of somo vital organ, J. Ilynn, Esq., Arawa, Christehurch, writeslt is with great pleasure and gratitude 1 take my seat to indite these fow lines, in order that 1 may givo expression to tho feelings of thankfulness for the benefit 1 lwve derived from the use of Clements Tonic. 1 have been a sufferer for the last eight years, and in that time havo tried a num. ber of physicians, and at great expense 1 have secured the opinions of men who wero considered great authorities, but with no result, for 1 continually got worse. However, they might differ about the treatment of my case, they all agreed that they could do me no good, and stated that I was in the last ot consumption, and fast coming to the end. On doctors' advice I travelled all through the colonies, and consulted medical men as I travelled, but instead of improving got worse,'and became destitute of means, and had to return to West Australia, whence 1 started. This was five years ago, and at that tirao nod over, since I have boen completely prostrated a»d unable to do any sort of manual labour or in any way to earn a living, and I teas so weak and emaciated thai I prayed and looked for the aid from week lo week. 1 have been in many hospitals, and when out of them have tried all sorts of patent medicines without avail. About two months ago I experienced a very severo turn, and seeing Clements Tonic advertised, I decided to try it (not that I thought it would do me any good, but I was {,ao ill I must have something), 1 havo used only two bottles, and can say truthfully that 1 am now stronger and better than at any time within the last six years, and intend to continuo its uso. Another man to whom I recommended Clement's Tonic said to me, " I wish to God I had known of such medicine ten years ago," You are at liberty to publish this if of sorvice.
