MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of tho Mastorton Road Board was held in the County Council Chamherß on Saturday last, present, Messrs T. W. Wardoll (in the chair), J. McKenzie and. W; Harris,

Mr Brown Hunt attended to ask the Board to set aside the thirds on that portion of Section 9, Block IV, lying in this district, to pay interest on a loan to be raised by the Mauriceville District for making Mount Bruce Eoad.

Hogg, M.H.E., wrote stating that the Board's resolution, in reference to gorsa and plant growth on roads and the responsibilities of owners of hedges, had been submitted to tho Agricultural Department with a viow to adequate provision for the protection of public roads being incorporated in the Noxious Weeds measure in course of preparation. The Department of Agriculture wrote, admitting that the contention that an owner of a hedge on ono sido of a road and allowing it to spread across the road, should be allowed to clear tho full width of the road, seemed perfectly just, but that tho proposal to amend tho Public Works Act or Counties Act would, they were afraid, have to stand over till another session,

Tho Finance Committee reported a Bank credit of £558 4s, and that £lB 9s 2d had been received in rales since 27th August. The Balance Sheet for the year wa3 also preseuted. They recommended that tlio adjourned annual meeting of ratepayers should he held on 22nd October, and also that at the next meeting a list, showing arrears of rates and by whom owing, should be laid before the committee, The Engineer's report was received and read. The finance Committee's report and its recommendations were adopted. Accounts amounting to £445 18a 8d were paused for payment. Mr Harris gave notice that at the next Board meeting he would move " That in future no sum exceeding five pounds (except in case of urgent necessity) shall be expended without tlio direct sanction of the Board. This completed the business of the meeting.
