McLEAN'S YOUNG AUSTRALIANS.

The Young Australians opened their Masterton season in the Theatre Bojbl on Saturday night to an excellent downstairs house, with also a ;' fair attendance in the gallery. The Burlegue Selim and Zulieka was the piece presented, In dialogue and "biißinGß3"itiß much the same as other musical comedies of its class, while to render it additionally attractive there are introduced a number of popular items of the kind which nover fail to catch-on with any ordinary audience. With the pressure on our space today and with the generous length and comprehensive variety of the programme afforded by " Selim and Zulieka," we oan hardly give it detailed critioism, Suffice it to say thatMius Bella Adair, who possesses a sweet voice of surprising volume, established herself a favourite in "My Dream;" that Miss Lillie Rodman sang " At Night" very nicely ; and that Messrs Arthur trlyn and Frank Lynch showed that they, possessed unlimited versatility and considerable talent in the items which fell to their share. The former, indeed, is quite the counterpart of Fred Mason, who Buoh a furore when the Carl **Hertz Company recently passed through New Zealand, During the evening encores were frequent, and the audience was very liberal in its bestowal of applause, The trio, "We've just had* Wire to Say so," waß, for instance, encored time, after time, as also was that sensation-producer, " Ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay," in fact the latter showedßigris of becoming interminable, and the reoallahal to be disregarded at last. One of th« nicest things of the evening • wbb the duet " Listen to onr Tale of Woe," by MißSes Bella Adair and Lydia BreaWl, The girls looked

; charming in their pretty tearfulness, [and sang very aweetly indeed, " The. Baby Four," a quartette and dance, ;was also effective and attractive, the dancing hoing extremely graceful and taking, Miss Violet Murray and the other members of the Company each lent good aid, and seoured duo appreciation, while the dresses and soonory were suoh as wore suited to the piece,! To-night" Salim and Zulieka" wil be repeated, and as tbo memborsof tho Company will have rested after the fatigue of travel, they should appear to additional advantage, To-morrow (Tuesday) there will be a chango of programme.
