LECTURE BY THE REV. ROBT. WOOD.

There was a large attendance at the Temperance Hall last night, when a lecture in connection with the Presbyterian Church Mutual Improvement Society, entitled "Robert Burns—The man and his writings," was delivered by the Eev. Robert Wood, The lecture was illustrated by songs, readings and choruses, Mr Colway, after delivering a short address, called upon the lecturor, who gave a very able lecture on Burns' career. The following was the programme:—Choir, "Ye Banks and Braes"; Song, " There was a lad was born in Kyle," Mr Dongall and the Üboir; Reading, "Tam '0 Shanter," Mi> J. McGregor; Duett, Mrs Cot' mack and Mrs Wood; Song," A Man's a Man for a' That,*' Mr Blaok; "Afton Water," the Choir; Song, 'i My Nannie's awa," Mrs G'ormack;
Song, "My Love is like tt Red Red Rose," Mr Boagey; Song," Of a' the airts the winds can blaw," Mrs Cor-
mack; " Duncan Gray," Mr Dougall and the Choir j Sons!, " John Anderbod," Mr Black;'! Scots whu hao," oboir.
At the conclusion of the programme Mr Co I way called upon Mr Bunting, the Secretary of the Society, to make a few remarks, Mr Bunting,in a few well-chosen words, thanked those present for their attendance.
Mr Colway moved a hearty vote of thanks to tho leoturcr, which was seconded by Mr Bunting, and carried by acclamation. The Rev Mr Wood slated that Mr Cnlway waaeditoroftbeii'Journal, and that lie had tho pleisuro of reading sotno of the articles from its pages, which he said beat many of tho articles in the local papers.
