Tho Land Board met on Thursdaj I morning. Present: Messis J. H Baker (Commissioner, in tho chair), Fitzhorbert, Hogg, McG'ardlo, and T,

was read and approved, Mr H, Hall waited on the Board and asked thai
the litlo to MrSlowell's section 41, Levin, Y.S., be allowed on thodoublo improvements being effected for
the second year, Consideration de-
ferred until the passing of tho new Act. Mr Alonnifield waited on the Board, re transfer of his section, 22, bluck H, Makuri, to Mr P, McGinley. Transfer not to be proceeded with until improvements aro efleeted. The return of applications for purchase and leaso of Crown lands received for the month of August showed that six applicants had applied for 88 aeres 8 roods 13 perches, tor £9114s ■ld, of which £9 cash had been paid, For tho quarter ended yesterday the area taken up was 11,917 acres 2 roods 80 perches for £10,210 5s Gd. The Board resolved to inform ono
applicant" that his explanation was not satisfactory and that if he did not appear before the next meeting of tho Board and give a satisfactory explanation of the matter, Government would bo recommended to prosecute him in the K.M. Court," The following applications for titles
were approved :-H. Barnes, Levin; J, Beach, Kaitawa; J.E, Calvert, Ongo; E.Bniley, Apiti; E. J, {stewart, ditto; \V, T. Grundy, Taranora; D, Guy, W.G. Woolf.J, H. Monteith and D, Morrison, Makuri; C. Fumell and J. Olsen, Mangaone; J, Vilo, J. Prebenseu, J, Steward, J. E. Scott, W. Thomas and C, Ebhott, Mangahao; A. S. Laird, Wairoa ;E. Short, Ongo.
Mr P, Cart' (as executor for Mr B. Carr, deceased) applied for and was granted leave to trausfer section 29, Block 12, Makuri. to Mr W. Cook, there being special circumstances which rendered it dcsirablo to grant the transfer.
Tho Committee reported that the ! charges against W. P. Sinclair and J. Walker for illegally cutting timber on Crown lands had been heard and disposed of, the case against Sinclair being dismissed without prejudice, while Walker was convicted and discharged, Applications for title were refused, the Act not having been complied with, as follows: —K, J. Port, J. It, Russell, E; Stack, H. Wagstaff, A, W. H, Wicks, E, Wilson, E, Cleverly, E, Potts,
•The applications of the following persons for transfer were disapproved: J. H, Dillon, G, Edwards, R, H, Whisker, 11. Preston, but subsequently it was resolved to inform Mr H, Preston that the improvements having beon effected, the transfer would be granted. An application from Mr H, 0. Gyde to register a substitute for section 44, Block IV,, Mangaone, was refused, as lie had not resided thero before.
Mr E, Walker's and Mr F, H, Walker's applications to be allowed to convert their deferred payment sections, Mangahao, to the perpetual lease tenure was approved. _ Mr J. Lee's application for a new license for sections at Helensville was approved, a payment of 103 6d to be made.
Certain publio reserves were ordered to be offered for lease.
Mr J, Clutonwaß granted leave to lease a section at Mangaone, at an annual rental of 10s. Messrs H. E. Smith and J. Devonshire's application to lease the island in the Mangatainoka Hirer for 7 years, at 15s per acre was approved, the lessee to protect the river frontage and the bush from being destroyed, Mrßurbages' application for time in which to effect improvements ab Mangaone was considered, and tho Board rpsolved that if a satisfactory urrangement was not come to by next meeting the land should be forfeited, A similar resolution was passed re Mr W. J. Bayliss and re Mr Power, The interest of the selectors of section 210, Mangaone, and of flection 80 was cancelled, they not having complied with the conditions of the Act,
On the recommendation of the ranger, the following action was taken with settlers in Mangaone and Mangahoa—for not effecting improvements one section was ordered to be forfeited and eight were Riven timo, The Board then rose.
