MARTINBOROUGH NOTES.

[Ftom an Occasional Correspondent.] Mabtinbobough, Wednesday, Our hotels Lave increased in number, and our police business Las increased in quantity. For instance, timing the last week there have bejn no leas than fivocases. Thus, on the 18th instant, before Messrs John Martin and George Pain, J.P.'a, Alexander Harvey, for assaulting Horace Playlo at Purutanga, was fined 10s and cos<s; and a case of drunkenness and ono of disorderly behaviour were dealt with in the usual manner; while this morning, Constable Bowden conveyed a prisoner, arrested at Martinborough on the lOlli instant, by couch to Foathorston.to be dealt with by the Court there in the absence of Justices. In this instance there were two charges: "Drunkenness,"and" Disorderly conduct while drunk." By discharging his duties fearlossly, but with justness, the Constable will prove to the people hero that the law must he respected as in other places. Martinborough is no longer a Bush settlement, and we hope shortly to hear of our flourishing little spot having its own local authority, featborston is a cut above us no doubt, butgiveusit little while longer,say five yeirn, and wo shall have our Banks and other public offices.
