The Fortnightly Meeting.
The fortnightly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was hold last (Tuesday) evening, there being present Crs Gapper (in the chair), Perry, E, E, Chamberlain, Foist, T. Cliara.berlain, Mutrie, Dixon, Heron, and Hesoey. The minutes of the previous mooting w#ro read and coafirmod, CORRESPONDENCE,
From the Secretary of the Wairarapa North Benevolent Society, stating that not a penny bad been received from the local bodies.
FromW. Rapp, stating that his property bad been transferred to Robert Hare.—Referred to the finance Committee.
FromW.B. Ohennella, Secretary for St. Matthew's Churoh, stating that the creek passing through the Church property had become a nuisance.—Cr Dixon asked if this was not a question for the Inspector of Nuiaancea.—Cr Heron moved that the matter be referred to the Works Committee, with power to act.—Or Hoaaoy seconded.—Oarried. SLAUGHTERING LICENSE, An application for a slaughtering license from Johu Elley, butcher, was granted, subject to the approval of the Inspector ot Slaughterhouses. APPROACH, An approach to the property of Mr W. H. Cole in Chapel-street was granted, subject to the usual conditions. CLUB-STREET, A number of ratepayers complained of the bad state of 01ub<street, The matter was referred to the Works Committee. RUTH-STREET. The dangerous state oi Ruth-street was brought under the notice of the Council by a number of ratepayers, and also by the Trust Lands Trustees, who urged that the street be formed, This matter was also referred to the Works Committee for a report. wairabapa. hospital dibtriciagt. A copy of the above Act, which Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H'K, proposes introducing at the next session, was laid before the Council. ARBOR DAY. The Rev, J. Dukes wrote, requestng the onconra'gement of the Council to a proposal to establish an Arbor Day in Mastertou. Cr Heron stated that there was very little spare ground fur planting trees in the Borough, Cr Gapper thought the planting of trees in the Borough would be a nuisance. The streets in the winter time were now quite damp enough. Cr Mutrie was of opinion that the streets were too narrow for planting trees,
Cr Gapper thought tbe Park Trua • tees might plant a few more trees in the Park, On the motion of Cr Gapper it was decided that the letter be handed over to tbe Park Trustees and that Mr Dukes be thanked for his suggestion, poundkeepeb'b bepost. The ropoit of tbe Works and Finance Committee meetings was road aud adopted, - • EXTENSION OF BUILDINGS.
