CORRESPONDENCE.

kit "Government Stroke?" [TO'.'THE'EDITOR, WRARAPA DAILY .TIMES,]' Sir,—l should like, through the' medium of your valuable paper, to call attention. to the time that has elapsed since the .work of erecting a hew gas tank commenced at the Mas' terton Gasworks, When you take into consideration that it is now about four months since a commencement was made, I am sure you'■■will-agree with me that this is an extraordinary long time for such a work. There are five men employed working at the tank, four of whom receive seven shillings per day, and the riVettor'ten shillings, This is a fair price for a lair day's work, But the question is, do tee men do a fair day's work ? I have been watohiug the progress of operation .for a long time past, and 1 cannot help thinking there is a good deal of the " Government stroke" about the thing. : I believe in speaking, very plainly concerning matters of publio importance, as we, as ratepayers, have to pay for it, It was stated a few weeks ago that the job would soon be finished, but that must have been a mistake, as there is a considerable quantity of work to be done yet, I fail to see what all these men have been doing praotioally all this time. The ratepayers generally have beon showing signs of impatience and discontent at their slow advance, I

should like to see progress reportei m the interests of the ratepayers I am, etc, Ratepayer. Masterton, 30th May.
