MUNICIPAL FIRE BRIGADE.
The knml Report
The following report was presented to the Masterton Borough Council at last night's meeting i—'The calls oh the Brigade for the year numbered 30, aa compared with 41 for the previous year, end olaesed as follows: —Fires in buildings, nine ] chimney fires, fifteen ; false alarms, six, The value of buildings with contents which caught fire was X2DSO, The losses by fire and water were£l79o,"sbowing that property was saved to the value of £760. The insurance on property which caught fire was £1287. The losses to insurance companies m L 985, showing that tho Brigades saved to the companies the sum of L 802.; The Brigade numbers 44 members, of whom three officers and twimty*two men aro stationed in Mastertoo and two officers and seventeen men at Kuripuni. The steam fire engine has had a good overhauling and is .now in perfect working order. The manual engine is in gbodjorder with the ex« ception of some slight repairs needed to tho woodwork. The boso reels and hose aro in good order, Of hose there is 1650 feet for the steam fire engine and 800 feet for the inpnual engine, 1 have also on hand two hundred feet of old hose that could be used in cases of emergency, t would beg to call the attention of the council to the want of water to supply the steam fire ongine between the Prince of Wales Hotel and Mr Perry's residence, Tho stand pipe is of no use except for the manual engine, A couple of ladders are also greatly needed for tho Kuripuni district, and would be of much use in chimney fires, Out of the grant made to the uniform and plant fund I have procured ten uniform tunics. I hope that before the close of the coming year every member of the Brigado will have.a uniform, The engineer to theJ3rigade,Mr-G. Smith, has carried out bis duties in a most satisfactory manner, and has kept the staiion and everything under his charge in perfect order, The officers and firemen deserve my warmest thanks for their regular attendance, good conduct, and prompt obedience to orders. I beg to offer to the Council my sincere thanks for the kind and ready manner tljey have met the demands of tho Brigade.—D, Pickerino, Captain,
