' The Kew Zealand Times says :- Strained relations at present' exist between the Wairawpa River Board and the Natives, who claim. to have; fishing rights in the lake. A certain amount of friction has taken place in consequence of the determination of the Board to take steps to open an outlet from the lake to the sea, -to is to prevent any recurrence of thieflodds that from time to tithe have bten a source. pE annoyance to the Bstlejß living in the"neighborhood of the Take, This intention, whipb.wa'fltq (>q . carried into effect this' week, was communicated to the Natives arid the Natives gave verbal notice of their resolve to assert their proprietory fishing rights, and preyerihany work of the kind being. undertaken, more especially as they already have their nets down in the lake, The Board accordingly communicated with the Government, and it is hoped that a settlement may be arrived at which , will obviate any unpleasantness,
