THEATRE ROYAL.

. Davys' Bright UfttsDavys' Bright Lights Comedy and Novelty Company gave their opening entertainment in the Theatre Royal last evening to a large and appreciative audience, The Company, which has just completed a tour of the North Island, is composed of eight performers, . nil sterling artistes, and the novelty of the entertainment makes it interesting and amusing, The perform mance is opened with a laughable musical farce entitled, "The Wrong Man," in which the proprietor of Chrysanthemum Cottage is, in "a most peculiar manner, mistaken for a vapid masher (who makes overtures to the wife of the former) and is forcibly ejected from his own house by a.cos* termonger. Then follows a song and dance by Miss Georgia Devoe, a pleasing singer and clever dancer, Mr Fred Davys keeps the audience in roars of laughter by his Irish impersonations and dancing, and Mr Z. Fritz, the" Swiss Warbler," receives an enthusiastic encore for his vocal rendition. Mr John Tudor and Miss Georgie Devoe appear as a tin-pot band and afterwards execute the challenge cogibat dano3 in a highly creditable manner. Miss Maggie Masters, who has rather a - euperior «op-> rano voice, is loudly applauded for her rendition of a popular air,'and Mr Zam Fritz fairly brings down the house with his humourous Dutch characters, The feature of the entertainment, however, is the American marionettes/ which' are made to represent all olasaes of individuals, from the funny 'Negro minstrel to the animated skeleton, and delight the audience with theircomica! though exceedingly 'clever porlor. mauce, The entertainment^, which throughout is ofn.most refined nature, is brought to & olose by the exhibition of a number of beautiful transforma-. tion scenes, with limelight effects! The overtures and accompaniments, we must not omit to mention, aro played by Mr Walter Smith, who is a Urst class mitaichn and master of the piano. A second performance is to be given to-night, when an entirely new programme will be submitted,
