In the case Benton v. Price, a claim for £2O damages for breach of contract, Mr H. 8. Wardell, R.M., gave judgment yesterday afternoon for the plaintiff for £9 7s lOd and costs £4 2s Bd. The installation of Mr C. A. Pownall as Mayor of Mnsterton has been further adjourned till Tuesday next, in consequence of the Mayor-elect being engaged in the R.M. Court.
The net proceeds of the conoert recently held in aid of the Peacock family were JEII 15s 6d. Of this sum £9 la 6d has been handed over to Mr Peacock.
The Harbourmaster at Kaipara advises the Marine Department that the barque RnbecOA, of Sydney, timber laden, got ashore on the Mary Catherine Bank yesterday. She is still aground, but might get off to-night if the tide holds good. The vessel has sustained no damage so far.
A meeting of setters of the Alfredton district was held on Tuesday last to consider the advisability of restricting the traffic on the Eketahuna-Tinui road during the winter months. After some discussion a resolution was unanimously carried, instructing the Engineer of the Wairarapa North Oounty Council to take such steps as he might oonsidsr necessary for the protection ot the road.
Messrs Lowes and lorns announce another sale of Hawkes' Bay horses, for the 29th inst. As a large proportion ot the two previous consignments the firm sold earlier in the year have turned out really good backs and harness horses the sale on the 29th ought to prove a preat success.
A. new adve'tisement from Messrs J. Graham and Co., with regard to their Christmas acock and prices, will appear in our issue of Monday.
An enquiry was held yesterday by tho Land Board into a supposed case of dummyism. The land in question ie in the Omatuni block, being two sections taken up by the Missus Margaret and Lizzie Verdon. Several witnesses were examined and the board then adjourned until the 29th iust, for the purpose of enabling them to see the evidenoe in writing.
