▲ Clever Swindler. Eot Se Obtained a Wife. [By Telegeaph.] Sydney, 17th November. An extraordinary story of alleged imposture is reported from Dubbo. Early last month a man named Edward O'Brien, who was a witness in the Moonagee murder case, called at the house kept by a large selector named James Gore, and claimed his acquaintanceship. Be said that he had been left £IB,OOO, and had £17,800 to his credit at the Commer. eial Bank, Condobolin, made himself very agreeable during his sojourn, and subsequently, after the Dubbo assizes, returned and obtained, on the strength of his alleged deposit, £BOO in cash and goods. Not content with this, he also ingratiated himself with Gore's daughter, and eventually asked for her, and was given in marriage. He was most liberal in bis expenditure, and bought a selection for £7500, and with his father-in-law came to Dubbo, lodged for collection at the Australian Joint Stock Bank a cheque for £17,300 on the Commercial Bank, Condobolin. Last Tuesday Gore and O'Brien came again to Dubbo, and it was then discovered that not only had no ease been received, but, moreover, the Condobolin Bank denied all knowledge of O'Brien or the £17,300 It is alleged that on Wednesday O'Brien attempted suicide by taking cblorodyne. But either be did not take enough or no attempt was made, for O'Brien gave himself up the tune evening. Next morning he was charged at the Police Court and Jjemanfled.
