MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening Present —Crs G. Heron (iu the chair), Perry, Feist, Gapper, T. Chamberlain, Dixon, and Hessey. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Messrs J. Payton & Co. and J. J. Smith, stating that they are willing to do the Borough advertising at Is 6d and Is per inch. —Received. From W. Ockenden, stating that the hedge on his property was nicely trimmed.—Received. From G. W. Woodraofe, stating that he could not agree to the diversion of a stream through his property.—Received. From J. G. Johnston, Secretary, stating that five Trustees had to be appointed from the various local bodies in the district to occupy seats on the Wellington Board of Benevolent Trustees, and that the election would take place on December 7th. —Received and left with the Mayor and Town Clerk to deal with. From R. W. Loveday, Secretary, stating that the election of members for th« United District Charitable Aid Board would take place on November 25th. From the Carterton Borough Counoil, stating that they would favour the re-appointment of Mr Hawkins to represent the district on the Board.—Cr. Gapper was appointed to attend the meeting and record the votes of the Masterton Borough Council. Works Committee. The roport of the meeting of the Works Committee was read and adopted. Wahtqawa Watke Supply.
Cr. Feist asked if any action had been token with regard to the Waingawa water supply. The Chairman : Not yet. Cr. Feist: Was not a Committee appointed. ? Cr. Hessey said he was one of the Committee appointed, butas a private settler he wished to state that the work was being done outside of the Council. The Council did not seem to take much interest in the matter, but if they wished to join in the work they could. The settlers had resolved to bring in the water if at all practicable. Cr Heron stated that it was rather premature to expect a report from the Committee yet. Cr Feist asked if in the opinion of Cr Hessey the Waingawa aupply would be a better one than the late one from the Waipoua. Cr Hessey was of opinion that the Waingawa supply would be much better for the Borough. j Cr T. Chamberlain suggested that a committee be appointed from the Council to consult with the settlers at a meeting to be held at an 6grly date. After some discussion it was resolved that a committee consisting of Crs Heron, Feist, Gapper, and Jferry meet the settlers on an appointed date. The Councifthen adjourned.
