FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
Interesting Roturrs.
An interesting memorandum on the New Zealand frozpn meat trade has just been published by Messrs A. S. Paterson & Co., of Dunedin and Wellington. It shows thit for the year ending June, 1891, 1,585,988 carcases of mutton, representing 94,887,487 pounds, were shipped from the various ports in the Colony. This was an increase of 373,186 carcases and 21,139,d10 pounds on that of the previous year. The total number of lambs exported was 341,433, against 260,204. The carcases of beef shipped amounted to 18,804,675, an iucrease of 4,669,843. Altogether 120,084,806 pounds of mutton, lamb and beef Were sent Some, The greatest Quantity of mutton and beef was shipped from Wellington, whilst Lyttelton heads tbe list for lambs, In the North Island there are eight meat freezing companies, and in- the South live, Tho capacity ot the works of Messrs Nelson Bios, is greater than that of any other company in the Colony. The charges for slaughtering, dressing, freezing, freight, primage, insurance, etc., are estimated to amount to 1-88, or 1$ per lb. Tho number of sheep in New Zealand on the 80th of April, 1891, was 16,749,692. j
