RIFLE SHOOTING.

A tri-angular rifle match between teams from the Wbakataki-Tinui, and Taueru Clubs, and the Masterton Rifle Volunteers was fired at the Lower Taueru yesterday (Monday), and was ultimately won by Masterton with a score of 582, Taueru being next with 515, and Whakataki-Tinui close behind with 505. Some excellent shooting was made by individual members of the three teams, and the country clubs are undoubtedly to be complimented upon the excellent stand they made. As will be seen by the scores, W. Speedy, J. Cameron. E. Vennell, C. J. Norton and A. Cameron made really splendid scores for the losing teams, and in the next tri angular match, no doubt they will make things even more merry for the Masterton team than they did yester < day. All through the match the scores were kept well together, and it was a " toss-up " which.could win when the last three men fired. Before the match coiumencsd in the morning, an interesting ceremony took place in the formal opening of the Taueru Rifle Range by Mrs Hugh Beetham, who iired the first shot, amidst the cheering of the Volnnteers. Mrs Beetham was afterwards presented with a beautiful gold bracelet with cross rifles attached, by Mr E. M. D. Whatman, captain of the Taueru Club, who made a masterly address. Mrs Beetham neatly responded, and the proceedings of the day commenced. The teams were hospitably entertained by Mr T. M. Brown, of the Taueru Hotel, and a capital luncheon was done full justice to by both the winners and the vanquished. The following are the individual scores:—
