A TREMENDOUS TREE.

A striking demonstration cf the well-known tremendous growth of some Californian trees is being pre pared for the World's Fair at Chicago (says the London Daily Telegraph). There is one tremendous trunk in Talare county, from which it ia said a log of clean smooth wood to measure 90ft in length and average 20ft in diameter, can easily be cut. Out of this enormous log it is proposed to build a whole railway train. To get the hewn tree to a railway station it will be necessary to cut it into sections. Expert woodsmen will cut it aoroas in the middle, making two lengths 45ft long. Eaob of these lengths will then be hewn into the shape of ordinary railway passenger coachos. The rough bark of the tree will be the roof of the car, and on the sides and ends the natural wood will be left unpolished. The inside will be hollowed out, windows and doors put in, and the interior finished after the fashion of Pullman cars. Plat- ' forms will be put at the ends, and ordinary trucks underneath, and to prevent the transformed trees from falling to pieces under any circumstances, heavy bands of iron will be put roun* iho body of the car. It is intended tliiit the'meh oj Tulare S»H take their wives'arid childreh^td'the Columbian Exposition with the treeS. The oars will be kept on Ihe fair grounds,' and £bi Relegation will make them their home. The portions of the trees not used will be out up and sold as mementoes.
