Owing to the rise in flour the roaster bakers of Invercargill have raised the price of the 41b loat from 6d to 7d. The price of bread has also been raised in Auckland.
The English mail was delivered over ;he counter at the Masterton Post Office :o-day.
Property fax is to be payable this year on 28th November ; if over £ls, then part on that date and the balance on 4th February, 1892.
Constable Strain arrived in Masterton to-day, and will do duty here until the return of Constable Cashion.
The Anniversary services In connection with the Masterton Wesleyan Sunday School promise to be very successful this year. The children, mnder Mr Jioagey, are being taught to sing suitable hymns for the Sunday services, and the teachers ara alreaJy making arrangements for the usual tea meeting on Monday, November 9th. Messrs Lowes and lorna remind our readers of their usual fortnightly stock sale to-morrow, the 7th inst., the entries for which comprise fat and store sheep, eows, steers, heifers, pigs, weanera, horses, etc.
The Mariposa, with English mails ti 6th September,left San Francisco on the 18th September, a day late. The Monowai, with New Zealand mails to 12th September, reached San Francisco on October Ist, contract date.
A private cablegram from Home has been shown the Times by Messrs Cameron and Christie to tho effeot that, at present, the outlook At Home for New Zealand butter and cheese is not very bright, but this may be accounted for by the fact that the American and English supply, at this time of the year, is always large, and the depression in the trade may therefore be only of a temporary nature.
The sale of the dairy plant of Mr F. Shaw, which is being held to-day, is attracting farmers from all parts of the district. The auctioneer is Mr W. Lowes.
