The Waikato Eleotlon.

Auckland, October 5.

At the request of several electors, Mr W. A. Murray telegraphed to the railway authorities asking them to grant facilities to the railway employes to vote at the Waikato election, which takes place to-morrow- A reply has been received that the request has been acceded to. Whales on the Coast.

Invercabgill, October 5. A whale was captured at the Bluff Harbour to-day 35ft long. Auckland, Octobers.

A whale 32ft long was seen in the harbour, and after a chase was run aground at Point Chevalier, where it died.

The Journalists Institute-

Tonedin, October 5.

A branch of the New Zealand Journalists' Institute has been formed here, Mr Mark Cohen being appointed chairman. He is ex-officio a member of tho Council of the Institute; Mr H. J. Grattan Gray was appointed an extra representative of the branch.

Railway Oommtmloatloa In the North.

Auckland, October 5

A meeting of the Committee appointed at the recent meeting which was called to consider the question of railway communication between Auckland and Taranaki was held to-day. It was resolved that the name of the committee be "Th 9 Northern Railway League." All the principal associations, including the labour bodies, are represented on the Committee. The work of canvassing for funds is to be proceeded with, and the Secretary was empowered to obtain assistance for tliat purpose. The planks of the league were announced to be to stop the further diversion of the Northern Trunk Railway loan ; to insist upon the immediate expenditure of £65,000 upon the Stratford line, aiid the completion next session of communication between Auckland and Taranaki -by that route. The completion of the Botorua Railway is also to be urged upon the Government.
