Rich gold reefs have been discovered at Errisberg, Uonnemara, County Gal way. An Australian iron syndicate, with a capital of £15,000, is projected for the purpose of securing the rights of Mr Charles Mitchell, of Armstrong, Mitchell and Co., the famous iron manufacturers, to work the iron deposits in New South Wales. The 85 tons cf silver conveyed from Valparaiso by H.M.S. Espiegle have been deposited in the vaults of the Bank o£ England,

The Right Hon. J. B. Robertson, Lord Advocate for Scotland, succeeds the Right Hon. J. Inglis as Lord Justice General. Mr Justice Collins has decided that if a combination pass a resolution not to deal with a particular tradesman, it is an offence against the Common Law.
Sir M. Hieks-Beach, in the course of a speech to his constituents, contended that farm labourers in England are better fed, clothed, and lodged than those of the Continent, Europe and Australia. The drawbacks to the Utter country were log nuts, the distance from churches, schools, and shops, and the absence from Friendly Societies' Saving Banks, and poor relief. A. church in Kent lias been roofed with jarrah timber, giving a splendid effect.
The Standard in discussing the prospects of the New South Wales loan, states that owing to the remarkable change in the money market, the opinion of nanny is that it will be cover jd, whereas a week ago nobody could bo found who would venture to predict that even half the amount would be subscribed.
The Daily News Btates that it is probable the Bank of England guarantees the successful floating, sinoe ics failure would be impolitic. Tenders for the New South Wales 3£ per cent loan of £4,500,000 at 95 opened to-day. It was found that only £4,100,000 had been sbscribed, but a few brokers took up the balance There were 880 tenders, and tli6 average price is about £95 Os 3d. The public apparently tendered for about a million; the colonial banks for the same amount, and the Bank of England for another million. A telegram from Buenos Ayres states that Balmaceda has arrived on the Argentine frontier. The Bank of England shows a profit for the half-year of £768,C00. A dividend of £5 5b was declared. The report states it is believed no loss will accrue from the guarantee given in Baring's estate.

Information has reached here that immense petroleum reservoirs at Batoum, a port on the Asiatic coast of the Black Sea, are on fire, and menace the town.
Rome, September 16. The Italian agriculturalists and experts in fruit growing, selected at Piedmont and Lombardy for immigration to Noriihern Queensland, will leave towards the end of next month. Rome, September 17.
The Government has decided to officially recognise the Junta of Chili.
Madrid, September 17. The damage by floods at Consuegra is estimated at £400,000.
Hundreds of people were drowned through refusing to leave their homes, though warned of the probable consequences. A thousand bodies have been recovered at Consuegra. Pabis, September 16. The French Government has recognised the Chilian Junta. September 17.
The Chilian cruiser, Presidente Pinto, surrendered at Havre to the representatives of the Junta. Ottawa, September 16. The petition adopted by the Dominion Parliament to the Queen, asking her to abolish the " mo3t favoured nation" clause in commercial treaties, declares that the retention of such a clause obstructs the extension of Canadian trade. Redress is demanded for the seizure of the Canadian vessel in Behring Sea by a Russian warship. Parliament has adopted the report of a majority of the Committee upon the recent corruption scandals. Hong Kong, September 17. The Chinese authorities have hanged six of the rioters at Tchang, and dismissed the mandarins who neglected their duty and made no attempt to check the mob. The Powers, however, doubting the Government's ability to suppress the outrages, have reinforced their fleets.
