ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taratahi- Carterton Road Board was held on Saturday. Present— Messrs H. E. Bunny (Chairman), E. W. Dorsett, A. Gallon, E. Morgan, H. Braithwaite, W. B. Allen. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Treasurer reported the Bank account overdraft £Bl6 Os Id. A statement of liabilities of ach Ward was also laid on the tabler
A statemert of receipts since last meeting was read by the Clerk. CORRESPONDENCE. From A. Neilson, complaining about the water beins; thrown on to his property.—Mr Braitliwaite explained the matter, as it was in his ward.—Resolyed, that no action be taken. From settlers at Pahau, re road to the Coast.—The matter was left in the hands ot the wardens for No 8 Ward to report at the next meeting. From Mr W. Bercock, re road to his slaughterhouse, stating that the nearest metalled road was 21 chains, whoras the road which he wants metalled was only one chain. As a ratepayer he stated that he demanded the road required. —The matter was ordered to be hung up.—At this stage Mr N. Grace arrived and explained the matter in respect to the coast road. The question was still left over till the next meeting.
Outward correspondence from the letter book was read and approved. SPECIAL RATE. The Chairman moved that the minutes in respect to the special rate of the Kokatau district be confirmed, and that a meeting of the ratepayers be held for the approval of the borrow - ing of £2500 for the erection of a bridge over the Ruamahuuga river, and that Mr N. Grace act as presiding officer for the said purpose.
GENERAL. A request was made to open up a piece of road at Dalefield. The Warden for No 6 Ward stated that on account of the financial position of the Ward he did not see how the wish of the deputation could be acceded to. But still, if favourable terms could be come to between the Board and Mr Price in respect to purchasing of the lyid through which the road would have to go, he (the Warden) would not oppose the wish of the deputation. Mr Welch asked that some little repaits be done to the road leading from the school to the river at Matarawa.
Mr Price also asked that something be done to tbe repairing of Dalefidld road.—Resolved, That Mr Gallon be authorised to expend £6 in repairs as asked for by Mr Welch. In answer to the Chairman Mr Price stated that he wanted £l2 per acre for the land through which the deputation wished the road to be, known as Chew's street. In answer to the Warden for No. 6 Ward, Mr Price stated he was willing to let the matter be kept open for 12 months, and that he would not pre<* vent foot passengers making use of the road, but no cart traffic.—The offer was accepted. The rate collector was instructed to make all possible haste in collecting the outstanding rate. Some accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
