The quarterly sitting of the Mas-***, terton Borough Licensing Committee ; was held in the old Courtroom at noon to-day. Present: Messrs Q. » Heron (chairman), Hessey, Chamber v.' lain, Perry, and Cave. qgff The minutes of the previous m&g ing were read and confirmed. The police report on the various > lioensed houses in the town was also * read, which was favourable in eaoh. ; oase. ~ A letter was read from Mr 0. A. Pownall, solioitor, stating that the ( licensees of the various licensed houses in the town would apply for x an extension of their licenses to eleven o'clock and for exemption from the ' rule requiring them to burn lamps ; J over their doors.
Mr H. Phillips made personal application for the extension of his \ license and exemption from the L lamp-lighting regulation. Sergeant Uannan opposed the application for exemption from lighting lamps, stating that it was not allowed by law. The Bench decided not to grant any extension of license at the present sitting nor to interfere in the matter of lighting. A payment of £8 8s to the Clerk for his services during the current year was reoommended, and the meeting then adjourned.
