MEETING OF RATEPAYERS.
TM Alfreltca Roads.
A meeting of ratepayers and settlers of the district was held at the residence of Mr Frank White, Tawa-j taia road, on {Saturday, July 25th the business being to receive the Engineer's report on the central Mangaone road east, There ware Bresent:8 resent: Messrs Dunn, Davie, Nagel, IcGowan (2), tftcaithly (2), Davidson, Groves, Louis, and White. Mr White was voted to the chair, and explained the object of the meeting. He said the Engineer's estimate to form and bridge the road came to something like £BOO, whioh he thought was rather too high. A letter was read from Mr King, the Engineer, in which he said he had gone over his estimate again, and found that he had kept very close to the cost and that it would not be advisable to cut it any finer. A long discussion followed, in which' most of those present took part. Mr Groves proposed, " That a loan of £6OO be raised to form half of the Central Mangaone road east, and to 6nish the Tawataia road at the northern end, the interest to be paid out of £340 thirds accrued from sections having a frontage to Tawataia road."
Seconded by Mr H. Dunn, and car ried.
Mr Lowes proposed, f That the Road Board be asked to take no farther steps towards the erection of bridgpg on Tawataia road, pending the resalt of raising the loan." Seconded by Kt Dunn, and carried. A committee was formed, consisting of Messrs D. Pitcaithiy, Ournett, McGowan, Grovcß, and j)unn ? to take the necessary Bteps in conjunction with the Road Board to carry out the above proposal, three to form a quorum. TLe meeting was adjourned till the 22nd August, when the report of the Committee wi)l be received,
