Meek, of Wellington, was sued by one Nicholson for £IOOO damages for slander, the jury returned a verdiot tor plaintiff, and awarded £lO damages.
The Wairarapa County Councils have presented a petition to Parliament, praying for separation from the Wellington district for chari- , table aid purposes, inasmuch as at present the contributions from the Wairarapa for charitable aid are almost all spent in the Wellington district. This is considered an injustice, .and henee the petition. . Dr. Canaiis, one of the oeverest illusionists in the; Southern Hemisphere, who has travelled the world entertained larpe audiences in every town he has visited, by his mesmeric skill, gives entertainments in the Master ton Theatre Royal on Monday and Tuesday evenings next. He will be assisted by Miss Olive Beaumont, the double-vciced vocalist and other artistes.
