A special meeting of the Red Star Football Club will be held iu the Empire hotel to-morrow eveuing, - A general meeting of members of the Masturton-Opaki Jockey Club is to be hold in the Club Hotel on Saturday evening next. Whether the audience were frozen to their seats or not we cannot say, but it is a fact that they took the exceptional course of retaining their seats during the rendition of the " Ralleiujah Chorus" in the " Messiah," at the Musical Festival last evening. In future no one will be admitted to the New Zealand police without having served three years jn the Permanent Force. The b. s. L awrenco has been stranded at Mokihiuui. It is thought, however, she will be pot off. Stanbury has beaten McLean on the Pairamatta course for the championship ot the world and £2OO a-side.

The woman—lovely woman!—who recently slipped the cable and left the storekeepers of Greytown in. the lurch, is now in Maatarton, and has already made the acquaintance of some of our. business people.
It *8 astonishing how fortunate the Greytown Hospital Tiustees have been in their last two bulls. Four years ago the nett balance was some £33, next yearab »ut J!ls. From this small amount it jumped to £127, and this year the total is estimated to reach £l5O.

It remains fur the ratepayers to decide which of the gentlemen they wish to represent them in the two last mentioned Wards, whether they will elect to have the old and well tried Wardens, or infuse new blood into the Road Board.
