FOOTBALL.
The Masterton Football Club held a successful practice on the Worksop - road ground on Saturday, good fordbeing shown throughout. The Red Star Club occupied the Park Oval And had also a very good practice. D'Arcy and Watson, two of the most prominent members of the Red Star Football Club, have thrown in theit lot with the Masterton Club. This will add materially to the strength of the first fifteen of the latter, and make it without doubt the most formidable team in the district. It is expected that a number of other members of the Star Club will join the Masterton. The Stars will in all probability compet? for the Junior Cup, and thsre will therefore be a hope of both cups coming to Masterton this year.
A match between the Greytown and Masterton Clubs is being arranged to 6e played in Masterton on Saturday next. The following team has been chosen to represent Master, ton:—D'Arcy; R. Thompson, J. Wallace, C. Perry; J. Perry, £. Holm wood, H. jPerry; Whatman, Watson, Bannister, Malcolm, Day, Gray, C. Holmwood, T. Wallace; emergeucies, W. Karaitiana, A. Holmwood, Baird and Eton,
The match between Pahiatua and Eketahuna was not played on Saturday, unforseen circumstances having arisen which prevented it. The Ponekes were "'put down" on Saturday by the Wellingtons, who won a closely-contested match by four points to nil.

A daughter of Mr J. Dutbie, M.H.B. of Wellington, was on Saturday married to Mr T. T. Millar, of the Bank of Australasia. The Wellington Hunt Club had a successful meet at Tawa Flat on Saturday last. The Government have deoidcd to establish a new Post Office at Ballance, at the residence of Mr. John Sinclair.
The sale of tho surplus provisions from the Hospital Ball at Grey town realised the sum of £9lsa 4d. With the Government Bubsidy added the amount will be £22.
At the Greytown Court before Mr. Wood, J. P.. last Friday afternoon, an offender was fined £l, or in.default 14 days' imprisonment, for refusing to leave a licensed hotel when requested to do so by the landlord. The building craze has not yet deserted Greytown. The latest in the field we hear of is Mr. Tocker, blacksmith, who intends erecting a smith and wheel, shop, with a dwelling house at the rear.
Mrs M'lntosh, proprietress of the well-known hair restorer, is now in Masterton, and may be consulted, at the Temperance Boarding House. Mrs M'lntosh has excellent testimonials from leading residents in the various townships of New Zealand, and those suffering from loss of hair should not fail to con suit her.
The other day one of the aristocrats of the land, whose capital and stack in trade consisted of a swag and a vote, called on a small farmer on the Awahuri Boad and asked for work. It is with deep regret we haye to I annouiice the death of Mr, D. MoDougill, of Pirinoa, Lower Valley, aged 52 yearn, one of the most respected runholders in the South Wairarapa. The unfortunate gentleman met his death on Saturday afternoon by drowning, when out duck shootin?. Mr. McDougall went off by himself in a Maori canoe, and being missed by his companion, a search was made, when he was found drowned in three feet of water, under" neath the canoe. The deceased leaves a large family to mourn their loss, tho eldehtof whom we believe is eighteen years of age.
