PAHIATUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent,) Messrs Lowes and lorns held a very successful sale of stock here at Mr Briggs, sale yards on Saturday. Fires are raging in all parts of the district just now. The felled bush on Mr J, D. Ormond's sections in Ballance is burning and the road is blocked by it for traffic.
A further meeting in connection with the formation of a Farmers' Cooperative Association was held on Saturday night. Mr J. Dawson occupied the chair. A desultory conversation ensued as to whether the proposed association should have a separate existence or whether it should be affiliated with the Canterbury Co-operative Association now in existence or with the Wellington Company which is just starting. Some information on the object and aims of the last mentioned association was given by Mr McCardle. who is a provisional direotor of it. Finally a Committee consisting of Messrs Tattersall, A. W. Sedcole, Turner, J. Dawson, and Mcßeth was formed to obtain complete information of the advantages to be gained in affiliating with Wellington, and if necessary to send one of their number to confer with the provisional directors at their meeting which is to be held on the 25th inst. A vote of thankß to the chair terminated the proceedings. Mr W L Kernahan, who hails from Palmerston North, has lately commenced business here as an auctioneer and general commission agent. He has already held one very successful sale of general chattels and effects in conjunction with Mr Montague, a Palmerston auctioneer, and I see he now ha 3 a notice out of another to take place on the 25th inst in the Public Hall. A bale of horses of all classes, buggies, and horse gear will also be held the following day at Jordan & Co's Tattersall's horse bazaar. Really Palmerston men are taking the lead ia seyeral new lines of business here,
Mr Jordan himself being until recently a resident of that town, as also Mr A Stewart, who has now opened in Wilsons building as a grain and produce broker.
