ENaLISH. London, January 24, The latest bulletin states that Mr Bradlaugh is sinking. The severe weather experienced throughout Europe has broken up. A petition against tho return of Mr Furness for Hartlepool is threatened on the grounds that he, as a member of the Shipping Federation, promised to employ ouly the Trade Unionists. It is reported that Princess Victoria of Wales is betrothed to the Duke of Luxemburg, Professor Hankin, an English bacterilogist, claims to have discovered a cure for anthrax in sheep. In the House of Commons Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, President of the Board of Trade, will move that a committee be appointed to enquire into the excessive hours worked by railway employes, with a view of legislating in the matter.

The House of Commons has rejected Mr Channings' resolution that the Board of Trade should limit the hours of railway hands to eight per day. The Government announced that it was proposed to set up a committee to inquire into the matter. In the Court to-day an application for the attestment of the strike funds was granted. The efforts of the Earl of Aberdeen, who was mediating in the railway strike, hare proved futile. In the House of Commons Mr Parnell is acting as if he was recognised leader of the Irish Party. Messrs M'Carthy and Sexton have returned frem the Continent, where they have been interviewing Messrs Dillon and O'Brien, and they are hopeful of an amicable settlement of the difficulty respecting the leadership of the Irish Party. It is stated that Mr Gladstone ha 8 acceded to Mr Parnell's demands, and given an assurance that his land policy is considered satisfactory by Irish members who placed themselves under Mr Justin McCarthy's leadership.

Messrs O'Brien and Dillon are appealing to America for funds on behfrlf of evicted tenants in Ireland. Mr Parnell has abandoned is motion criticising the administration of the Crimes Act in 'favour of one tabled by Mr Morley. Mr Balfour's Irish Fund has reached £40,000. f
