A VISIT TO LONDON HOUSE, GREYTOWN.
Last week when in Greytown rojfortinpt the Flower Show there, our representative was courteously invited by JJr D. J. Duff to look through London House, the drapery and clothing establishment of Messrs Duff unJ McCoy, a firm whose name is almost as familiar'as their own to most of our readers.
The windows first attracted attention, One is doyoted to a .comprehensive and admirable display of straw goods, hats, bonnets, and millinery j the other mainly to men's mcroery, shirts, ties, braces, hats, &c. While gjanoing at the windowß we noticed that the articles were marked with the selling price in plain figures, a oustom very popular and fair to the public, We complimented Mr Duff on this, The interior of London House is subdivided into three departments,' On tho loft are the dress goods and general drapery, on the right the men's clfltlung and msroery bransh, and right through at the back and with more privacy, is the ladies showroom under the care of a thoroughly competent milliner, the firm ruakjng a speciality of rflilljno,r,y. and having in cfoargo a lady of considerable experience,
The tJuess materials were the first to catch our eye, and a very fine assortment Messrs Duff and McCoy possess. Pile upon pile was to he seen of prints andsuiunAOVgooda, siicli bb light woollen textures, grenadines, sephyrs, oashmeres,oasbinerette3 and so forth, In self colours there were also some nice things as well as inohecked tweeds. The coloring ranged from the most delicate tints imaginable-, delightfully dainty blushes of many lovely shades -to (he most vivid hues oftjje mora defined colours, There were also some particularly effective and elegant combinations in some of the blended colours. Some handsome white Swiss robes in dress lengths are graceful, and should not be long in stock; The evening dress goods possessed if anything more merit still, and Messrs Duff and McCoy seemed to have in this line everything that was fasbimabje ju nuns' veiliugs, grenadines., funoy muslins, and all the latest materials and sludes, some of wbioh wore particulorly refined in softness of touch and beauty of tint, The Fancy Department is aft largely stocked thaj wo. are quite unable to mora than 'barely name a few of the lines we noticed, Some umbrellas and Minshsdes, and more particularly a few specialities in lace parasols, are worthy of remark. The firm's' Swing embroideries, ribbons of every shade and bue ( beautiful laces (Vandyke, Hfmiton, ilaltese, Irish, Torchon, Oriental and others,) ore also attrap. tive,. An extensivo naiiotfment of aprons frqtn, pyiojand muslin up to the finest ajlk, present an endless field of choice, v/hilo in gloves, both for day wear and evening use, tjierois equal variety, The %* Room, an elegant apartBent in charge of Miss Nation, and handsomely draped with curtains, olusters of French and English artificial flowers (of which latter Messrs Duff and McCoy bavo a most charging array of exquisitely modelled and most natural productions) is tastefully furnished, mi ia equipped with tint very necessary adjunct a full length dressiug room mirror of'ample size.
