CORRESPONDENCE.

ifr Boss's Ekot&huna Mooting (To the Editor.)

SiR-In reading the reports of Mr Hogg's speech at Ekotahuna I was '< much surprised at their difference as appearing in the Daily and the Star. Your reporter states that there we 100 persons present, whilst the Star i reporter states 25Q, including several ladies. As J was one of those present, wd counted the number, I may state that I made the total only 94, and there was not one lady present at the meeting, The Star states that Mr Yon Eedin proposed a vo,to of thanks only, which was not seconded, lam afraid, tha Star reporter's mind was fixed too much upon the ladies, and not enough upon the business in hand, Now, sir, allow me to giyo you a fow facts as to what actually took place at the meeting. At the couclusion of Mr Hogg's addross Mr Wiiliami ascended the platform and addressed tho electors on laboar, capital, the Chinese question, nod. other subjects, to the astonishment of the pllonce, who evontually began to think that ho was the candidate, and not Mr Hogg, Howevor, the pitience of the audience being exhausted, a regular uproar ensued. In the midst of the disturbance some ono proposed a vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate, A large number of electors immediately got up and protested against the vote of confidence. Mr Rowse moved an amendment that a vote of thanks only given and no confidence, That was seconded by Mr Bright, your bumble servaut, aud several others. The Chairman proceeded to put tho motion, whereupon considerable uproar ensued, and it demanded that the amendraentshould be put firs.t. <'Yerywell," said the QJwwnan, " those who arein favor of it (tbese are the words used) will hold up their handß." Alarge number held up their hands in favor, The chairman then called for a show of hands against, when only three were shown, It was then that three cheers were given for Mr Deetham and groans for Mr Hogg. (By the by, I notice (hit thenar report omits that fact).- flra' meeting then broke up in iiprb'aY,' Another fact which was omitted" ifi (lie report was that a largo mtiW of electors left the hall before {hVcdii: elusion pf the address, At the conclusion, of Mr Bectham's address a vote of confidence waa proposed aiid seconded, Mr Beetham declined to ftooept a vote of oonfidencerStatiDgthat he had made it a practice at all his meetings to receive a vote of thanks only; A vote of thanks wbb then unanimously accorded the candi* date, If Mr Hogg had followed the same phu, tyer* would, have been

none of the ilMeeling am | disturbance ; wbmh ocourred at the conclusion of ms address. ( v. : i lain,fe, .'■■'[ ■ . An Elector. / (To the Editor.) Sm-In your issue of yesterday I note that you state "The North Wairarapa Jtnbbit Board has appointed two. disinterested poisons to visit and report upon the steps being taken on various stations for the destruction of tbe rabbits,". I would beg to point out that no such step . was taken. A resolution waa passed at my request, tho purport of which''was, "That the Chief Inspector be asked i to send an agent with the Board's Inspector to examine ;a particukr property."—! ftm , &0., .-.
