\ AUSTRALIA!!, _ MELBOuaNE, Noyeniberlf). A deputation dt the .Chamber of ; Commerce requested the Government \ to ask the colpnies if they .were willing to tako the responsibility of a r reduction in cable rates; irrespective of colonies which'had refused; also r whether they would join the: postal union. Mr 'Munro, the'premier, . said he was in favor of joint colonial ' representation on. the Postal Unions ( Ho depreoated the notion of New Zealand-and Queensland in holding aloof from sharing in the' guarantee for the cable reductions, He hoped, however, they' would yet show a disposition to join, and ho would ask the Cabinee to again approach them. H they persisted in their refusal, he would then see what could be done. The Premier requested the deputation to Bubmit their views on the Paoifio cable scheme. If the present cheapening of rates would retard the construction of that cable, then it was a question whether they had not better abandon the reduction in preference to losing the ohance of getting the cable, which would be of immensebenefit to' the colonies, Melbourne, November 20. The other Colonial Governments having refused to bear a part of the cost, the Victorian Government have declined to contribute to fcho expense ' of fitting out the ADtarotio expedition.
