SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary monthly meeting of tlio Masterton School Committee was held last evening, there being present Messrs E. M'Ewen (Chairman), Daniells, Hoar, Easthope, Galloway, Eton and Prangnell, _ The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORREBPONnEKOE. From Mr G. Beetham with reference to the proposed side school. From the Education Hoard on the same subject, stating that tliey could not nialtoa grant until they knew tho apportionment of the Board from the Government vote,—Mr Eton thought the Board appeared to be anxious to shelve the -matter,—Mr "Daniells proposed that the communication be received and the Board be requested to deal with the question of a site at its next meeting.—Mr Easthope seconded, Carried. From Education Boanl, stating that Miss Keeling hid been granted leave of absenoe and Miss Watson had been appointed to the temporary charge of the school,—Received. From same, stating that they could not accede to the request tliat a grant be made for the purpose of refunding the prize money. A good deal of discussion took place on this subject, the Secretary suggesting that the resolution of the Town Lands Trust be forwarded to the Board,-Mr Daniells did not think this would avail very much, They could not got the money by this I means.-Mr Prangnell thought they should sulmit a statement ot receipts and expenditure for the past three years to the Board,-,Mr Galloway considered thjs would be a good idea, —Mr. Eton moved that the Secretary write to the Board, forwardiug a statement ef how the money received from tho Town Lands Trust had been expended, and stating that these grants had now been discontinued.— Mr Prangnell seconded—Carried. From Mr Huxtable, cleaner- of the main school, asking for an increase in his eajajy as he had been misled when putting in his tender.— Tlie Secretary pointed out that if the inorease was granted the capitation grant would bo exceeded in chairing alone by the sum of £l4s. —Mr Easthope moved that a reply be sent to Mr Huxtable, stating thai the Committee cannot entertain tl request.—Mr Daniells seconded.. Carried
