Auckland, May 1, Dr. P. Evans, an auctioneer who recently became bankrupt,, has left suddenly for Fiji without consulting his creditors on the subject, but in a .letter to the Official Assignee he stated that he had met with so many disappointments that ho was now thoroughly disheartened, and as, his remorse was addecj to by the (apt that his family was scantily provided for, a friend having given him a passage to the islands, he had gone there; hoping to return by the end "of May, in better oircuuistanoes. In regard to the labour demon •! strata at Home the Auckland Knights of Labour have passed' a I resolution sympathising with the labour' movements througout' the 1 world in their efforts to obtain legal recognition of eight hours per day, and trusting that our "Parliament will in its coming session pass: an Eight Hours Bill.Several cages, of influenza prevail ■rttffelw" .!
