Auckland, October 28, Tho schooner Duncdiuhas retained from tho Iwniadec IslunriH. The party of settlers who left' for the gi.oup on the 4th instant by the vmsel had a patisagß ilown, »nd Sunday Island whs (lighted on the 11th, At 5 o'clock in the afternoon ilib schooner anchored in Denhani Bay, and the men of the party at once went ashore and commenced the work of erectii.g temporary dwelling, wharesol wood with nikau and t»iioi. A larsje number of kauri Io»h drifted from Mongomii, (Vhangaroa and other localities along the northern coast of New Z.ialand are lying stranded in Denhtru, Bay. The settlers on examining' tlieue found that they were sound at heart, and intend sawing them up for l>iiildhie purposes. The principal wood found growing ou the island is pohulaWa, which is practically worihta? a luiilding material, The lint on which ilie BHtth-rs are at present located is uliout 300 hcits in extent. Near (he centre is the only fresh water to lie found on the island. The landing of passengers and cargo was completed on the 18th instant, and tho schuonei left next morning for Auckland.
