EKETAHUNA.
(From Our Special Correspondent'.) Yesterday (Friday) will be a red letter day in tho annals of Eketahuna, as the day on which another milestone on tho road, of progress was reached. I allude to tho opening of the mi. Court, a want whioh lias long been felt in Eketahuna and the district.
After a loug period of comparative. stagnation, the people of Eketahuna appear to be waking up, and seem determined to make the place what it should he—a populous and thriving country township. With the grand bush land which surrounds it on every side, and the numerous special settlements that are opening up the country all around, Eketakuna must, in the near future, become an important centre. The inhabitants seem to bo just realising this fact, and very properly have commenced at thobeginuiug—viz, street improvements. The contract' for tho widening and levelling of the main street has been let, and in a short time we may expect to see what is now nothing but holes, blackened logs, and stumps (amongst which it was risking life and limb to wander at night), transformed into a good and safe road. This is tho first step, and doubtless will bo followed by other improvements, such as the erection of new buildings and the enlargement and beautifying of those at present standing. The new police office is near completion, a resident doctor has taken up his abode, population is flowing in, and all that is now required (at least at present) is a lawyer or two to keep things lively. En avant! Eketahuna.
