ENGLISH. London, August 1, Lord Salisbury, speaking at the dansion House said it was impossible
for England to evacuate Egypt, Negotiations are progressing between England and Japan for a new commercial treaty on a basis that tho former abrogates its special territorial
and judicial privileges, while Japan affords facilities to British commerce between the ports and the interior, America and Germany are arranging treaties on a similar footing.
Sir- W. Robinson has boon appointed Governor of Mauritius. Lord Lahsbury, in a speech at the Mansion House banquet, said there was no real danger of the peace of Europe being violated. He repudiated any desire on the part of tho Government to annex Crete.

Cairo, August 1. Colonel Wodohouso has had a sharp skirmish with the Dervishes, it which the latter lost 70 men.
