• ft appears that about 3 o'clock this morning Constable Sutherland, a native of New Zealand, who was on duty in Macleay-Btreet, saw a burglar making off from a bouse, into whiob he had successfully entered, Thopolicoman attempted to arrest the man, and a severe struggle took place, At last the burglar, whose name is Morrison, seeing that he was being worsted, drew a revolver and shot Constable Sutherlandin tbo groin. The wound caused the latter to let go his man, but bofore doing so he struck tbo burglar a terrific blow on the head with his baton. Morrison then made off, but was oaptured later in tho day.
