(From Onr Own Correspondent.) ■'Mr Soptimua Bacon isabout '. starting a flax mill in'Alfredton.,'-' About 9 o'clock on Monday night; Mr Henry Burling's slaughtering establishment was destroyed by fire.. The origin of the fire is but it evidently started on thsW premises as- there was no bush fires' . in the neighbourhood. Mr Von . Men saw the premises burning as he was passing and endeavored to put it out with sheep-skin's, but, failed. The men had been there in the afternoon and killed three shoep ' ank one bullock, all of which were destroyed in tho fire, Henry Mills, a servant at Jomes' Temperance Hotel,' out Lis throat last night. Cannot find out the reason. It appears he went to the loft over the stables at about halfpast ten o'clock. Shortly after, Mr Jones, having occasion to go there for some reason, found him covered in blood. Ho called for assistance, and sent for the. police. A public meeting is called in Mr' Tuck's Hall for Saturday, .-the 9th inst., at 8 p.m., for-the purpose of forming a Committee, etc., for the Eketahuna Sports, intended to bo held on the 18th March,'
