CRICKET.
On the Paik Oval on Satutday a match was played between a team got together by Mr T. L, Thompson and the Mastmon Club. The latter batted first and runs till Meredith went on, when the wickets fell a good deal faster thnu in the beginning of the game. Some doubt was expressed as to whether this trundler tbiew or bowled the ball, but he was not challenged by the umpire. The total of tho innings peached 115, T, McKenna 24, Bremnor 21, Mathias t 16, and Perry 10, being the double ' figure men. Thompson's team then followed with 77, towards' which Mouah (not out) 21 and Elder 14 were the chief contributors. Pownall, ; - Mathias, and Perry divided 'the bowling honors. With a l 'lead'of 38 on the first innings; the local team went in again and put together 140 for ten- wickets, Harrison and T. MoKenna being absent, 0. Blackburn playing substitute for the latter,; ■ The • first wicket fell for over 40 and most' of the team got into double ..figures. Mathias was taken in u'peculiar manner, MoKenzie hit a ball hard back, which went through tho bowler's legs and knooked the stumps down, and Mathias; being' just out of his, ground had to retire., Manning came off best with the leather, securing five wickets for 47' runs, ImthoV second innings Thompsons team 'only' got_49 for eight.wickets.
