Masterton Road Board.
The usual monthly meeting was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs W. H. Beetham (Chairman); Dagg, Buick, Brown, and Stuckey.. Correspondence was read as follows: MrD, McGregor on behaif of tho settlers of the Upper Plain, stating that they desire to bring the Blaok Creek through their properties, and asking permission ; to bring it across the road under a totara culvert. Commissioner of Property-Tax re special rates. Secretary to.the 1 Treasury advising payment of £BOO and JEIOO on account of loans.,' It was resolved to grant Mr McGregor's application. Mr Dagg reported having interviewed the Mayor of Masterton in reference to the deviation of the Kuamahung a ford, and said the work should be done provided the Borough .'overseer'- approved of the proposed expenditure. Mr M. McKenzie, ovei'seor.reported as follows;,
Wangaehu Branch 'Line. —The contact let to Gardiner & Co.,\on this line has been completed in : a satisfactory manner • arid the' final payment fqr the work can be made, j Wangaehu ■. Road,—Stevens itnd Woolfe are progressing favorably with their respective contracts,: although l the works have boeri dalayey through want of a sufficient supply oftimber.; : ] \ Pirau Swamp.—The work authorised i on; the Upper 1 Opakf this swamp has been finished andapproved Of,;. •■;■•- ■';•■;;] ..Some time ago the sura of £BO was' voted for the purpose of re-metalling tlio road leading to the property of Mr 2 Evan-' iMcKeuzio,;. Kopuarangi, and!would suggest that tenders for
the work be called as early as possible.
With regaid' to the ford on the < Euarauhunga river leading to the. u| property of Mr W. lorns, I waited on the' Borough Council when it was arranged that their overseer should accompany me in order to ascertain the nature of the repairs necessary, and I was informed at the same time that the sum of £3 would most likely ' be voted towards the expense. , • The Overseer was instructed to take steps to get the, road at Kopuarang! reinstalled. \e&? The Clerk wa*s instrifted to ascertain if the Crown.grants'of certain properties at Fernridge; Matahiwi,' - Miki Mild, and Te'Whiti through which roads have been laid off had matiirjd. ■«
The Clerk and Overseer too also instructed to get certain mistakes in the Boaid's map of the district rectified before next meeting. Accounts amounting to Ll7l were passed for payment. This conoluded , the business. J|
