Wellington v Masterton,
The match between these clubs was played on the Park Oval yesterday, but owing to the miserable weather was robbed of all interest and left in an incomplete state. The turfed pitch in the centre of the ground was used for the first time and played fully up to expectations. The teams were captained by Messrs A. Gore andC. A, Pownall, Hey J. McKenna and Mr 0. P, Skipper officiating as umpires, and Messrs Bate-and J, H, Kibbtewbite weildiug- the. pencils. Mastertoinvent first to the Avickots and the last wicket fell with the total at 58. Perry batted in fine style for his side[2l (not out), and T. McKenna (10) gave the bowlers a lot of trouble before Bocldington got to his bails. The bowling analysis gave Morey 2 wickets for G runs, A, Gore i for 80, and Boddington 8 for 22. Consider' ing the visitors aro the strongest batting, team in Wellington, no difficulty was anticipated in their topping tbo local score, but with 6 wickets down for 46 the Masterton team still had hopes of dismissing them within their own total, However, E. Gore made a splendid stand and carried the score to 112 before he was disposed of, being run out for 31, Only one more was added to the total when the last wicket fell. Sanderson 17, and H. Gore and Morey 11 each, were the next highest scorers, Iggulden and Perry came off best with tho ball, the former getting 8 for 32 and the latter 3 for 88, Taldng into consideration the opportunities they have had for prao tice, the Masterton toam fielded very well, _ Matbias made two fine catches at point, and McKenna did well as longstop. Atthisstag6aii adjournment was made to the Empire Hotel, where Host Thompson had provided an excellent luncheon. As the weather showed no signs of improving the game was decided on the first innings, and both teams paid a visit to tho Theatre Koyal skating rink, where a pleasant afternoon was put in. The visitors returned home by the 5.20 train. Appended are the scores;
