The New York Herald asserts that President Cleveland's defeat is- •attributed to Howitt splitting the Democratic'vote, and it considers that possibly the Democrats have a majority in the representation.
The Tribune states that the Republican victory is due to the policy] of Liberty and' Protection. Its general comments indicate that tbo anti-British policy influenced the election, Cleveland secured a majority in the Southern States, while Harri[son had a majority hi. the North, Now York determined the result.
